CT Sounds is proud to introduce the hydro shallow mount subwoofer series after completing a rigorous R&D process spanning 2 years! Our goal was to engineer a 500-watt 12” shallow-mount subwoofer with a mounting depth below 4.5” that was suitable for both sealed & ported enclosures. To achieve this, we focused on the EBP (Efficiency Bandwidth Product). As a general rule, EBP < 50, is used only for sealed enclosures, EBP 50 - 100, is used for both, and EBP > 100, is used only for ported enclosures. EBP = FS/QES.

Quick Facts:
RMS Power: 500 Watts
MAX Power: 1000 Watts
Voice Coil Configuration: Dual 2 Ohm
Use Cases: Sealed & Ported Enclosures

Our 1st prototype utilized a 61.1 mm voice coil & 75 oz magnet resulting in a high QES rating of 0.89 and low EBP of 37.87. The 2nd prototype utilized a 50.8 mm voice coil & 75 oz magnet resulting in a slightly lower QES rating of 0.716 and a slightly higher EBP of 47.07. After the 1st and 2nd prototypes, we determined a larger motor assembly was needed to provide a more controlled electrical system (lower QES). This led us to invest in a custom-tooled basket (used in the final prototype) to keep the mounting depth below 4.5”.

The 3rd and final prototype uses a 61.1 mm voice coil & 92 oz magnet resulting in a reduced QES rating of 0.490 and a balanced EBP of 70.73. In testing, we ran into mechanical noise due to the larger motor assembly and voice coil in a confined space. Therefore, we invested in a custom-tooled cone to maximize the excursion capability by creating an equal distance between the cone, spider, and bottom plate. The result is a 12” shallow-mount subwoofer that is extremely responsive in both sealed & ported enclosures.

Hydro 12s

Ok so I'm not a fan of shallow mount subs, because you just can't get the same performance out of then as you can a from a standard sub., and the bass is usually drone sound to it. With that being said due to lack of room for a normal size box in my 2020 f150. I decided to give the hydro 12s a go, and couldn't be more pleased with the sound. No they're not as loud as a standard 12 in a standard box, but man they have a clean rich sound thay you can feel. I was pleasantly surprised. The box I went with is a Mega Bass box by Kuztom Boxes designed specifically for the F150

Great bang for the buck!

Just installed 2 12s with their 1500.1 at 1 ohm. In a very small sealed box "1.6 ft3 total" for my buddy in his 2012 Ram. They sound excellent!
I honestly believe that anyone looking at shallow subs would have a tough time beating them for less than $250+ per woofer. And he got these for $140 each on sale. Cheers!

Ct sounds versus american bass versus skar

Well over all the CT sounds woofer is definitely built better then skar and american bass the AB woofer has a bigger Voice coil and can handle more power making them able to handle lowes better but the CT sounds are more musical still breaking them in but they are comparable to skar i just hope they hold up better. The reason for purchase was black friday was a great deal for 2 woofers thinking about. Buying the amps to.check them out.

Haven't broken them in yet but they sound good I was surprised with the shallow mount subs.ill give them another week before I turn up the amp to see what they can really do.
